The City of West Palm Beach, incorporated in 1894, is the oldest municipality in Southeast Florida. The city serves water to approximately 102,000 residents via 569 miles of water main and over 35,000 service lines through West Palm Beach Public Utilities (West Palm Beach).
THE CHALLENGE
At the beginning of their Lead and Copper Rule Revisions (LCRR) program, about 51% of the city’s service lines were categorised as unknown in terms of material composition. While West Palm Beach did not expect to have lead, the challenge became clear when the count of unknown lines was found to be over 18,000. This raised concerns around cost implications of field verifications.
While using an Excel sheet for LCRR tracking was a solution, the city believed it would be too cumbersome, which prompted them to seek a more efficient solution.
THE SOLUTION
West Palm Beach found that Trinnex’s leadCAST and its predictive modeling offerings had robust features designed to streamline LCRR program, and were a perfect fit for the city’s requirements. After successfully implementing leadCAST, the city is currently utilising its full suite of tools to document and track LCRR activities.
Using leadCAST Inspection Optimizer, the city initiated field verifications to prepare for statistical analysis and predictive modeling. They are also planning to use leadCAST’s Compliance Connector to integrate drop-ship sampling via SimpleLab.
RESULTS
By leveraging statistical analysis and predictive modeling, facilitated by leadCAST through 2025, West Palm Beach is confidently working towards LCRR compliance. leadCAST Predict will also enable the team to confirm that the materials in unknown lines were non-lead. This will save them substantial cost, which would have otherwise been spent on extensive field verifications.
– West Palm Beach, FLThe leadCAST platform has been incredibly useful in our LCRR program efforts. It’s helped us to see the light at the end of the tunnel!
