Acque Bresciane is the Integrated Water Service utility operating in the Province of Brescia. It serves a large and diverse territory characterised by urban, industrial, and rural areas, managing a complex infrastructure network that requires advanced monitoring and control tools. Within the framework of Italian National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR), the utility is involved in projects focused on reducing water losses, digitalising networks, and implementing increasingly effective monitoring systems.
THE CHALLENGE
The network involved in the project presented several operational challenges that made effective loss management and monitoring more difficult.
In particular:
- Water losses not fully tracked
- Limited network district metering
- Uneven visibility of operational data
- Eeed to comply with PNRR targets
THE SOLUTION
- Analysis and modeling of 79 km of distribution network
- Design and implementation of 4 District Metered Areas (DMAs)
- Deployment of advanced Pydro PT1 measurement systems
- Real-time monitoring of flow, pressure and temperature
- Integration of data into the operator’s operational systems
- Technical support for coordination of the PNRR project
RESULTS
The project enabled Acque Bresciane to improve its understanding of network behaviour, increase the accuracy of identifying critical issues, and establish a stronger information base for the proactive management of water losses and future investments.
- 27 leaks identified across the network
- -22% actual reduction in losses achieved through leak detection activities alone
- Greater visibility of hydraulic phenomena and operational data
